I would agree with others it doesn't give you a nice view of whats currently open. There needs to be some kind of bar somewhere that gives you a glance of what's open and a quick way to switch between applications. Then again they've only just released it so I'm sure we will see alot of changes within the next year or so.

If you want to speed up your UI try getting Gnome Do - you use your superkey+spacebar to start it and then just start typing F...I...R and Firefox will pop up.

Also, holding Alt and tapping Tab will take you through your open apps. Let go of Alt when you're on the desired app and boom - you're there ;)

I tried GNOME 3 today on Ubuntu 11.04, and although it is very pretty, I had to use more clicks to get to what I wanted. For example, to swap back and forth between Firefox and a terminal, I had to click on the Applications button, then click on the window I wanted. I find it easier to just click on the window button on the bottom panel. I also didn't care for not being able to see what programs were open at a glance. I'm not sure how adding steps to a process cuts clutter, and perhaps I'm missing something, but it is indeed very shiny and pretty.

I give GNOME credit for trying something new, however. The nice thing about Linux is that if I don't like it, I can change it.

I do like the aesthetic although this could polarize the population once again. If they just make it as solid and aero or OSX then it will be a pretty good contender.
