So how is Roku, Boxee, etc doing these days? Pretty good I hear. Not that RIM should venture in that area but it's not a failing segment by any means.

I disagree with calling apple tv a failure. It was a flop as in it did not sell as well as bottled water, but it was and is a good device. I have and use daily 2 of them, one first get one second, and they do everything I want them to do. They are also easy enough that my wife and son can both use them. For a product that has never had any advertising or promotion, I think its a very functional neat product that I enjoy.

Now this article is bias, but I feel like apple tv was a failure also. The idea behind all this is to make your tv internet tv with marketing aimed towards whichevers companies branded store (ex iTunes or blackberry app world). I feel like blackberry needs to revamp there ways of thinking and take a step back to see whats junk and what they know works. Rim makes exceptional quality products as apple so there is no reason why they should be losing so much stack at the market other then they have the wrong people telling them what sells.

absolutely idiotic article. Trying to create a feature when there is nothing to write about. RIM may be an ailing company but this article is just about taking cheap shots. Everyone loves to kick a person going down.

Was it reports from the same people that said to expect an iPhone 5 with a 4" screen?

It was never confirmed they had a Media Streaming box in the works, and it's stupid to create an article based around the entire unconfirmed fact that RIM was planning on releasing the device but decided against it.

I laughed so hard when you said that set top boxes are dead. They are far from it. Microsoft currently owns the set-top box market with the Xbox 360. They have shipped over 55 million units worldwide. Many people think that the Xbox is just a gaming console, but it is really a home entertainment device. In the newest dashboard update, Microsoft will be bringing live TV, movies, TV shows and other television content front and center. Gaming will just become another feature. When Microsoft releases the update in November it will change the set-top box market for ever and probably destroy the Apple TV, Roku, Google TV, Boxee etc...

I totally disagree with your (delivered with no reasoning) argument that the future is "in the TV". If it were, consoles, DVD/BR players, Stereos, Set-top boxes, cable boxes, HTPCs, NASes... would already be in the TV. They are not.
Computer screens are alongside TVs, not in place of them, and TVs are used for group stuff. People no more want to do email/twitter/Facebook on a TV than they want to write their journals on the kitchen's whiteboard.
There is room for an innovative device alongside the TV, probably replacing many or all or the ones listed above. And able to act as a computer in a pinch maybe, but with no desk in front, probably a bad keyboard, a much too big, too low-rez screen, only a very casual one.
As far as RIM is concerned... It'll take a miracle to save them from a slow slide into irrelevance, so maybe they should fire in all directions, maybe something will stick.
