Western Digital trying to claim highest density single platter HDD title

They released the Caviar SE16 HDD which has a single platter inside sporting 320GB of data storage on that one platter. Yes, all you Samsung fans (myself included after what I saw at CES) they are trying to claim that somehow this drive beats out the density of Samsung's SpinPoint F1 drives that fit about 334GB of data on a single platter.

So, clearly they are ignorant of their competitor's products, but its still a nice hard drive and should be a sign of things to come from Western Digital. It has a 16MB buffer, NCQ, and a 3Gbps SATA interface with a maximum buffer-to-disk transfer rate of 972Mbps.

You can get it now for $70 and with a single platter design it should offer up slightly lower temps and require a little less power as well. The official price is $100 though, so shop around to get the lower price.
