Go watch video on the Treo 650 and try to say, with a straight face that the rows and columns of icons on a touch screen doesn't look familiar... ;)

The Treo even had thumbnail images-something someone layer obtained IP for even though prior art existed.

Idevices are a new OS that looks exactly like the old Palm OS GUI.

As Steve said, Apple took what others invented and brought it to a bigger audience.

I can see how the customer benefits, I can see how the OEMs benefit(it will be cheaper than Android because of the patent protection), but I can not for the life of me figure out how HP benefits.

Google's rationalization is clear, getting people online causes them to see Google's adverts, which increases Google's revenue, but how does HP benefit? They are committing capital to maintaining and developing it....

Open Source is fine, but under what license. GPL-v2, GPL-v3, LGPL, apache or some thing completely new that would be incompatible with every other open source license out there. I would like to see it being licensed with something compatible with android, so they can share pieces of code and just make all of us happy.
