Thunderbolt is expensive and both USB3 and thunderbolt have far more bandwidth than a single mechanical hard drive can use right now.

Uh, well duh the new Ivy Bridge Apple computers will have USB3.
And, an Apple user could always get a USB3 expresscard, if their laptop has an expresscard slot.

I would not say no to a USB3 connection either as an option, but as Dave said, no way using it on Mac right now! But why use USB3 when you have Thunderbolt? I believe Thunderbolt is twice as fast as USB3.
