WatchKit is Apple's notification backbone for Watch

What is WatchKit? Apple Watch notifications, of course! WatchKit, like all of Apple's "kits", it's for Developers, but is also pretty robust, and could mean big things for Apple's small wearable. Apple even noted some Starwoods hotels would let you enter your room, just by waving your Watch at the door!

WatchKit isn't limited to simple pop-up messages, either. There were some really neat examples noted at Apple's event today, like finding your car — and even knowing if you need fuel or not. Of course, that all depends on the OEM that produces a notification for WatchKit.

Currently, a lot of companies are already signed on and making things for WatchKit. Nike's Fuelband can let you track stats and challenge friends, while even the simple things like Twitter become actionable and a bit more fun to look at. Seeing tweets in a new way on a small screen might be the best way to keep you involved with your Apple Watch, and from what we're seeing, you'll want to be.

Apple is trying to change what you do with a smartwatch, as well as how it interacts with you. Board a plane, wait for a train, or find your automobile. Apple Watch wants to bring all those little parts of your life together, and they've already got some great partners helping them out. In that regard, they're well ahead of the competition. We'll have to see how the public reacts to what Apple has for us, now.
