Here’s a tip, if you’re really bored and want someone to talk to, just post a YouTube video explaining just that. Ryan Fitzgerald found himself with ample time and decided to post a video offering to listen to anyone that wanted to call and talk.

He has since received over 5,000 calls in response to the video. Unfortunately, his carrier T-Mobile will be charging him for all of the calls he makes. He says that won’t stop him, many people have left him messages, and he’s determined to call as many back as he can.

He found his inspiration from another fellow YouTube user who posted a video offering free hugs to strangers. “Some people’s own mothers won’t take the time to sit down and talk with them and have a conversation,” Fitzgerald said. “But some stranger on YouTube will. After six seconds, you’re not a stranger anymore, you’re a new kid I just met.”

He has since posted an update to his original video in an attempt to set a few things straight with everyone.

  1. Bless him, if only he’d been in Europe he wouldn’t have had to worry about paying for incoming calls.
