The whole reason Windows has taken hold is Microsoft’s business sense not their quality. They know how to play the 800 lb. gorilla. Windows has alsways been poorly implemented, unstable and easy to hack. Linux is making big in-roads but it won’t catch Windows. People will always take the easy way out. Windows is familiar to most folks nd Linux is an unknown. Besides, Windows sells a lot of hardware. A lot of computer hardware that is thought to be defective is actually good. Windows will suddenly “forget” how to handle it. The H/W sales types LOVE that!

Yeah, because no one ever complains about Windows operating systems.

there is a huge difference between and OS being used widely and being complained about and it not being used at all and being complained about, both Linux and Windows have their faults, with Windows its reliability with Linux its usability, at least with every Linux release the usability goes up, with every Windows release the reliability goes back through the floor

more and more people are taking home Linux based products every day and more and more of them are seeing that its not that bad and not near as scary of an OS as many people make it sound, if anything, Linux is gaining momentum, it just didn’t gain it fast enough, and it hasn’t yet gained enough for it to make business sense to keep Linux based computer in stock, then again, maybe it wasn’t the Linux operating systems that kept the systems from selling well but the weak hardware inside.[/quote]

sorry more and more ppl are talking bad about linux … cuz for a “non-tech” user if something does not work= bad OS .. its like this on Windows its like this on Linux …. so many on Ubuntu because its “in” like Apple stuff …. but so many are saying what thay think about those products on the web … and guess what next versions of Eee are comign with Windows cuz ppl is asking for it. Check HP and the MSI next little sub-notebooks … weak hardware? lol its always the others fault .. linux is crap as it is now,just accept. Even in the Linux based user groups many are not happy how things are atm … “Joe” wants a working machine not a “will work 100% some time in the futur” .. how many years are Linux guys say “This year is the Linux Year”? .. 20, 30?

The problem is that Windows has too much momentum. All the applications are available for Windows, and even though there are alternatives available for Linux, they aren’t the same applications. In the case of gamers that means the latest and greatest games either won’t work, or will work but will take a performance hit because you’re running them in emulators. For the corporate crowd it means that that new corporate system your company paid $$$$$ for won’t talk to your Linux system, and you’ve got IT breathing down your neck because they don’t want to support more than 1 of anything. Linux is in fact a superior OS from a purely design and function standpoint. It however can’t compete with Windows because Windows owns more or less the whole market. If Apple ever manages to get even 40% market share, then Linux will stand a chance because there will be true competition at that point.

Linux will never maintain a noticeable market share in the desktop market. People have predicted it would for years now and it is repeatedly proven that the masses prefer Windows for ease of use, support and range of applications.

Ubuntu was just one more of a doomed line of Linux flavors wasting the time of talented developers who could have been doing something worthwhile with their talents than reinventing a crappy version of the wheel that will never be used by more than a few extremeists.
