Waffle Houses become Roadie pick up destination

In the good ol' days, you responded to a classifieds ad and met up with the person in a mutually convenient parking lot for safety reasons. If you had something to deliver, you entrusted it to a neighborhood kid and paid a few bucks for their assistance. As with all things, that morphed over time, and has led up to where we now find ourselves: with smartphones and apps that connect people together, making it easier to operate with a "share-economy" sort of service. Roadie is one example, and it has revealed that Waffle House is on-board to serve as a mutual meeting ground for users.

Roadie works in a way similar to Uber, but involves driving around cargo between users rather than driving people to the places they need to go. A "Roadie", as they're called, downloads the app and accepts driving gigs. They go to pick up the item and deliver it to the related address, and are paid through the app for their service.

It's a convenient way to have an item shipped, but the downside is that you have to get the item to a driver, and for one reason or another you mightn't want that pick-up location to be your home address. As anyone who has gone on a road trip in the eastern half of the US knows, there's a Waffle House just about everywhere (where Roadie operates), and now it has become an official pick-up/drop-off location for users. And, yes, there are waffles involved.

People working as Roadies will be able to meet with senders at any of the Waffle House locations, where they'll be given a free drink if they're on the job. If you head to your nearest Waffle House in the near future, you'll also likely be seeing advertisements for Roadie, which is in beta currently.
