$40k is ridiculous. They overprice it on purpose so no one will buy it. they can say “see, nobody wanted it” and go back to making gas guzzling suvs and keep gas tycoon partners satisfied.

Clayman is spot on. This car is a loser at $30-$40k still. I hate VW and would still buy a TDI over this thing if I want to get fuel economy. The whole point I thought was to encourage buyers by saving money by investing in this not just breaking even. If I wanted to just be an elitest snob I would just buy a Prius…

The problem is simple. The Volt costs too much. At over $40,000 for a basic car, it’s way overpriced, and there’s no way you’re ever going to break even, much less come out ahead on this car. Oh yeah, it’s a Chevy too, so strike 3.
