In the UK, jonesing for an Nokia N900 but can’t afford the sticker price of an unlocked handset?  Hold tight until January 2010, and you’ll be able to pick one up from Vodafone UK; the carrier has added the N900 to its “coming soon” page.

As you might expect, there are no pricing details or indications of when exactly in January the N900 will drop.  Nonetheless, for those unwilling or unable to buy the handset outright we’re guessing Vodafone will be offering the N900 free with a new contract – probably a reasonably pricey one of around £35 a month upwards – with a two-year agreement.

Your commitment gets you a 3.5-inch resistive touchscreen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, HSDPA/HSUPA and WiFi b/g, together with the Maemo 5 OS.  There’s also a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, Bluetooth, one of the best desktop-standard browsers around and the chance to hang on the cutting edge of Nokia’s precarious platform balancing.
