couple of days ago i stopped by radio shack to see if i could get my laptop on the 3G and was told unlimited, i went online and notice how slow it was and couldn’t really play a video. found out the speed is .6 to 1.4 mbps and after using 2.5 G the speed drops to .25mbps for the rest of the month! great i use that in a day!! all this for 50 per month? you have got to be kidding. really? so i returned the stick
and contacted virgin mobile to get a credit on the 50 dollars and they are ‘filing a complaint letter’ whatever that means and then they can send me a check for 50. sooooo i will stay with my isp and pay 36 per month for truly unlimited data at a speed of 3.28 mbps.

Especially if you look now, you can get 2.5 or 3gb from AT&T off contract with hsdpa speeds for the same money. Which would be like 3x faster then what I’m getting from my VM Mifi. I’m not a heavy user, and it does serve me. But life isn’t all about me. I do concur with those who felt betrayed. Want to throttle after 10 or 20gb, fine. I see their point about abuse. But honestly, I only get like 800kbs. Fine for the irc, websurfing and small file downloads if I hook it to a tablet. But not much else.

You get enough speed for that? I mean, I like the service and basically its used for weekenders. But quite honestly, the speeds aren’t great. Previously I used Sprint, and I know its the same, but was getting somewhat faster speeds,

Wrong, you can miss I think up to 3 or 4 months without dropping it. I went two months no problem.

I did get this just for my laptop. I guess in reality i am not online much at all. I too have been a vm customer for many years. It really is unfair to advertise this so heavily, then change the deal. I am sure many people are very disappointed, and you all have every right to be. I totally agree on the customer service. It is great. So patient with me they have been. I love love love my mifi for my laptop! I think it will serve you well.

I still have the 40 a month plan. If you do not have auto pay or miss your payment date, you will not be able to keep this plan. I love it still, and i think for just 40 a month its all cool.

Hello..what happened to the $40 unlimited plan. Or the $40 5GB plan, now all I find is $50 2.5 GB plan? All this happened in a couple of months. What’s next? $100 with 0 GB. My new MiFi will join the box of unused computer junk that we all have. Nice scam Virgin Mobile, you really took all of us to the cleaners, there should be laws to protect ignorent consumers.

I went to add a top up card to my account and found it is now 50$ for “unlimited” and after 2.5 gb they reserve the right to throttle back the speed to 256kps.

I bought the device, and enjoyed it very much, while the plan was truly unlimited. I use it to stream netflix, and since Virgin Mobile capped the data @ 5Gb, I exceeded my limit within 3 days. I’m not paying $40 a month for Internet service that only works 3 days a month!! It’s a sad state of affairs, when a company’s customer service is so bad, it makes me go running back to Comcast (the former kings of lousy service). Who’s running Virgin Mobile, anyway?? Bernie Madoff?? Feeling very ripped off right now…

5GB is nothing, for the mifi which can connect up to 5 users, if it were the Octavian then yea 5GB for one user is plenty. The MIFI should have at least 25GB before reduction in my opinion.

I watch youtube and hulu all the time, so does my roommate and together we used nearly 5,000,000 mb’s over one month. That’s almost 5000 gb’s!. It was really more like 4800, but seriously, that’s a lot of data. I almost think that maybe the counter is broken and ups how much it charges. Course I also use XBL, not often, but sometimes. Obviously we need a new internet plan because as soon as Virgin Mobile’s thing expires, I’m going to move to a new internet service provider. Especially since they’re anti-network neutrality. Sadly, I only learned that after I bought their mifi. Makes me sad, enjoy a fuckton of data and then they pull the rug out from under me after just 3 months.

This is a scam from Virginmobile, I’ve just spend $150.00 with tax for the mifi device 20 days ago hoping to get unlimited data. 5 gig of data is nothing now a day this is not ten years ago, modern webpages are big and full of adds. Just look at the online flash video then you’ll see what’s the size of it(youtube HD video). We should sue them for the amount we’ve paid for the piece of junk device. I’ll tried to resale this piece of junk on ebay and get some of the money back then I’ll sign up with super fast Clear 4G unlimited plan for only 45.00. With clear home wireless modem you can get it to mobile as you wish, but it’s super fast not like a piece of virginmobile junk. I hope your company die soon.

I am a satisfied Virgin Mobile customer thinking of getting the solo ‘broadbandtogo’ for my laptop and that’s it. I just need to access the web in transit for research purposes. While this news disappoints me, as do most out-of-the-gate promises from all companies, I am not dismayed about the potential it has in fulfilling my needs. But I did want to address the customer service complaint ‘Richard’ posted. I have been a Virgin Mobile customer for quite some time and have never, ever been dissatisfied with their customer service. They were able to help while I was still on the line and when they were unable to do that, have always helped me, always followed up and always credited me for lost service, returned phones, switched services, you name it. Because of my line of work, I cannot commit to a 2-year plan provided by other carriers and, while inviting, MetroPCS was a tragic mess and did not serve my needs at all. I stand by Virgin Mobile’s customer service, while not always by their business model. Thank you.

I couldn’t agree more. I just purchased the MiFi, sold as a device able to connect up to 5 computers. I recognize the potential for abuse but give me a break-5GB per month, ridiculous. I have sent them the following message, but likely of no effect
“Hi: I have just received your email about slowing down the $40 unlimited broadband2go plan.
I cannot tell you how frustrated and disappointed this message has made me.
I just recently purchase your MiFi for +149 from Bestbuy with the understanding that there was unlimited usage. There was no mention of slowing down users, and certainly not at a ridiculous low 5GB.
As you know the MiFi is advertised as being able to “hook up to 5 computers” at a time, but now you will be limiting the usage significantly.
I understand that there are abusers out there, but 5 GB is way to low to define abuse. Of interest we have had the device for a week and our usage is only at 900mg which is moderate at best, but the 5GB limit is way too low.
May I respectfully request that you reconsider this decision and if you have to limit then use a more realistic number such as 20GB or even 15GB which would still allow reasonable usage and not fall into any definition of abuse.
I look forward to hearing from you and thankyou for your time.

ps to reiterate, 5GB per month of usage, especially for a MiFi is unreasonably low.

TBH… I have no objection to the prospect of bandwidth limits…. but why do they keep setting unreasonable limits? Sure people who torrent and download teraflops of data per month may need limiting, but why do they set limits so low that normal users get stuck?

A normal user my want to access youtube or netflix or watch any of the internet tv services. Doing so, and watching even 1/10th of the average media consumed per the last survey I ran across, would put you across the 5GB limit. Why don’t they set these limits more reasonably? Somewhere around 25 or 30 GB?
