Viddy gains steam with celebrity cash

Remember earlier this month when we had you take a peek at an application by the name of Viddy, otherwise known as "Instagram for video"? This week that same app has so many investors it'll make your head spin. This application is well on its way to topping the app charts for iPhone and iPad and has gotten both tech celebrities and kings of industry members like Twitter's Biz Stone to invest in it. This is the kind of backing you want if you plan on heading to the top of the app world: Jay-Z's Roc Nation, Skullcandy chairman Jeff Kearl, and none other than Shakira.

For those of you not following the company behind Viddy extremely closely, you should know that this isn't the first round of investors they've ever had for the video-sharing app. All the way back in February (the second month of this year, yes), the group got a $6 million dollar investment from several venture investors. Now with celebrities such as pro skateboarder Rob Dyrdek and soccer king Gerard Pique on their side, Video's team is about to get the energy they need to blow up.

Have a peek at our hands-on video above on the iPhone 4S and know this: Viddy didn't just launch this year. It's been around in one form or another since all the way back in April of last year. Because of this, you'll find the video library they've got (from the massive amount of users working with the app) to be quite gigantic. Make sure you follow Snoop Dogg and Chris Burns to stay updated on SlashGear and smoke. [Download Viddy in the iTunes App Store now for free.]
