Victorinox INOX Cybertool is another option for making a dumb watch smart

As smartwatches are becoming more and more common, so are the options for attachments that add smart functions to traditional analog timepieces. We've already seen in the form of new watchbands, as well as devices that clip to the back of a watch's frame. Now Victorinox, the company behind the iconic Swiss Army Knife, has just announced a new smartwatch device in collaboration with Acer. Dubbed the INOX Cybertool, it attaches to the front of a watch, putting additional information around the analog face.

Among the smart functions the INOX Cybertool provides includes smartphone notifications for calls, texts, and calendar alerts, along with tracking for steps and calories, and support for multiple timezone display. As the round unit clips onto the frame, allowing the watch dial to still be visible, it can also provide stopwatch and chronograph features.

There is a downside, however, and that's the fact that the Cybertool is only compatible with Victorinox's own INOX watch. It's specifically molded to snuggly fit around the timepiece, so don't expect it accommodate other watches. Actually, there's another negative, which is that it kind of detracts from the INOX's simple and clean appearance.

The INOX Cybertool is set to be priced at $225 when it hits stores, making it fairly reasonable, however the INOX watch isn't included, and sells for $600 on its own. Overall, it's an interesting solution to the issue of adding smart features to a traditional style watch, but it's hard to imagine someone picking up the INOX just for this attachment. Those who already own the watch, or are fans of Victorinox, may find this appealing.
