I along with many Macbook Pro owners have been without broadband like connection thanks to the new ExpressCard port. Should I (or you) run out like a mad person and purchase the V640 ExpressCard from Verizon? Well the answer to totally depends on whether you can make good use of $59.99 per month service fee as well as an up front charge of $99 for the card. You should also keep in mind that you’ll have to sign a two-year contract with Verizon.
Thanks to Gear Live’s recent review, the decision to take the plunge does seem worth it. Why? For one, it’s easy to setup and use. Two, the broadband like speed; where Verizon’s EVDO service is almost available in every major city. Gear Live managed to achieve a real-world downstream speed 370kbps and increased to 448kbps as they got near downtown Seattle. Upstream speed was slower clocked at 114kbps. The V640 card was given a 9/10 rating – very high. I wonder why it didn’t get a 10?

You are not the only one who are jumping up and and down on this news. I have go on without my wan for 3 months since i got my macbook pro
I’m excited but haven’t jumped on it yet. The service and commitment is still very expensive. I can’t justify the cost yet. $100 for the card is all right with me, but 2-year commitment and nearly $60/month is still too expensive. Then again, if you’re on the road 7 days out of the month, it pays for itself considering that most hotels such as Marriott charges $9.99 per day.
