More ramifications of our FCC selling things that don't belong to them.

When the intended use of the spectrum has signals that will only propagate at most 25 to 50 miles (in completely unobstructed lightly accessed areas), why is our federal government in the business of selling it for the entire 1200 mile wide country? We complain about monopolies on one hand and then with the other we give multinational corporations everything they need to get and hold them in pretty much every communication market.

Just seems like it would be a better idea to have state communications commissions. Regional carriers could sprout up and cheaply buy middle-of-nowhere wireless spectrum for wireless internet access for all those still on 56k. Single-city carriers could exist in places like New York City to help distribute the load across many wireless networks instead of just "the big four".
