I love how Verizon told me when I called that it was just an extended update on the system. I’m a tech guy, last time I checked an update doesn’t cause an area outage let alone a nationwide outage. Don’t sugarcoat the problem with an excuse just be honest about the fact your most trusted system failed again. Lol

Pull battery from phone, put battery back; if anyone else still doesn’t have 3G back. Worked for me, have 3G back now. Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

I’ve got a 4G LTE Samsung with Verizon, and this morning I’ve been unable to connect to any data service, period. No 4G, no 3G, and no 1X. All I can do is make phone calls. I’ve rebooted the phone twice. I’m in the Dallas area. Hope this gets resolved soon.

Yeah I have an iPhone 4 that operates on 3G and I still have the service so it’s working fine on the 3G network. Now I have mifi 4g lte at home for Internet and I have no service on it so it is just the 4g network data down.

I have a thunderbolt and also live in raleigh, nc… been on 3g all day (I have mine set to LTE/CDMA and it automatically switches to 3g when 4g is not available, but I have a newer thunderbolt, bought in september, maybe that’s it?) …but 4g literally just kicked back on here, hopefully it stays on.

BTW my
Droid Razr goes to 3g when I am out of 4g coverage. There are still a few places here in Washington that are 3g only. So I see it switch all the time when traveling to those places .It switches seamlessly and without a hitch .

Fine here in Seattle. Of course Verizon’s 3g is pretty good anyway. Any 4g phone goes to 3g automatically when 4g is lost. Since huge chunks of the country are still not on LTE yet.

Verizon phones will work on 3g. you must change your settings to 3g then turn phone off, pull out the 4g sim wait about 10-15 seconds and 3g will appear.

Vegas here too, Razr Maxx. I had to manually go in to my settings /wireless networks/mobile networks, and and force CDMA only. I’ve been on 3G since the outage has occured. Hope this helps for the time being.

I have the HTC Thunderbolt which is a 4G LTE phone, I am working just fine on 3G during this outage (Louisville, KY outage as well). I believe the difference here is that you need to go in and specify that you want to use CDMA only, this will allow you to connect to the 3G properly. If my phone is set to LTE/CDMA, then I do not get any data service.

Correction: VERIZON’S phones cannot connect to 3G when LTE service goes down. AT&Ts do because their 3G network was also GSM, :]

DrBenji is correct. The 4g phones will not connect to 3g while 4g is out. It has to do with the way the phone authenticates to 3g using the 3g sim card. I really hate how Verizon makes claims that 3g will work, it doesn’t work on 4g phones!!!

When are they going to start issuing credits for all of the outages???
