Important Information about Verizon Wireless Data Plans and Features
As part of our continuing efforts to provide the best experience to our more than 94 million customers, Verizon Wireless is introducing two new network management practices.
We are implementing optimization and transcoding technologies in our network to transmit data files in a more efficient manner to allow available network capacity to benefit the greatest number of users. These techniques include caching less data, using less capacity, and sizing the video more appropriately for the device. The optimization process is agnostic to the content itself and to the website that provides it. While we invest much effort to avoid changing text, image, and video files in the compression process and while any change to the file is likely to be indiscernible, the optimization process may minimally impact the appearance of the file as displayed on your device. For a further, more detailed explanation of these techniques, please visit www.verizonwireless.com/vzwoptimization

If you subscribe to a Data Plan or Feature on February 3, 2011 or after, the following applies:
Verizon Wireless strives to provide customers the best experience when using our network, a shared resource among tens of millions of customers. To help achieve this, if you use an extraordinary amount of data and fall within the top 5% of Verizon Wireless data users we may reduce your data throughput speeds periodically for the remainder of your then current and immediately following billing cycle to ensure high quality network performance for other users at locations and times of peak demand. Our proactive management of the Verizon Wireless network is designed to ensure that the remaining 95% of data customers aren't negatively affected by the inordinate data consumption of just a few users.

This all seems rather familiar... Ah, I remember now. At last years CES we were supposed to get an iPhone/Verizon announcement. Then when that didn't come there was supposed to be one a few weeks later.. and lets not forget the supposed impending announcement for for the Holiday season- because after-all it is the hottest sales period of the year.
Eventually it will come. Maybe Jobs will give it to another carrier or two first, to punish Verizon for it's refusal to play footsie w/ Jobs at the birth of the iPhone. Jobs is a genius, but he's definitely got a vindictive side, and now that he's king of the mountain, he no longer has to suppress the fact that he's a jerk.
Or maybe it'll come on January 18th (yesterdays rumor) or maybe Feb 3rd.
In any event, I'm done waiting. My contract has been up w/ Verizon for 2months. I have a bonus coming mid Feb. I'm buying a Droid. I could switch carriers, but (at least here) the difference between ATT & Verizons reliability & quality is night and day.
My best friend recently got married to a guy she's known for a couple years. He's been on ATT since they met, she on Verizon. He owns a big business empire, and he's entrenched with ATT, with employees on his plan, etc. So he's sticking with ATT... forever. Her Verizon contract came up last October, and despite being a devoted Mac fangrrl, and despite the savings that they would have had if she got onto his ATT contract- she stuck with Verizon because of ~2yrs of experience with his horrible ATT service. It's weird too, although we're only in a MID-sized city, we're real hot in high tech manufacturing, we're a big test market for products & services, and every time a magazine writes one of those "top ten cities to... (live, work, raise a kid, get laid, get drunk, etc.)" we make it on the list, usually near the top spot. So I'd think that ATT's service would be at it's pea her
(that was quite a tangent..)
Anyway, I'm done with Apple yanking my chain. I'd love to have an iPhone, it would fit with my almost 30yr love affair with Apple products (starting with first gen AppleII+).
I just can't wait any longer, realistically the differences between the iPhone & the Droid are minimal, and when you throw in ATT's overtaxed system that drops the connection every 5-15mins (with quality varying significantly between drops)- switching carriers isn't an option either.
My pointless, and half-hearted tirade for the day...
