Verizon G3 coming this summer with XLTE in tow

Those in the US eagerly awaiting the LG G3 will soon have their patience rewarded. Joining the train of carrier announcements, Verizon has chimed in to say that LG's flagship will be descending on the masses this summer. And yes, according to the carrier, the smartphone will be compatible with its fancy XLTE service.

There is, of course, reason to look forward to the smartphone, as the LG G3 is, so far, one of the best in class among its rivals. LG has managed to hit a sweet spot in the melding of hardware and software features. It may not have the heart rate sensor of the Samsung Galaxy S5, the whooping 20.7 megapixel camera of the Sony Xperia Z2, or the Ultrapixel Duo Camera of the HTC One M8, but the G3 just has enough interesting features to make it rise about the rest.

Primary among those is the 5.5-inch QHD IPS display, of course, but the rear button controls and the novel laser autofocus system also make for an interesting feature set. Add in software features like Knock Code, Dual Window, Smart Notice, and a lean and clean Android skin, and you've got a winning recipe.

That the LG G3 will be able to support Verizon's XLTE network doesn't come much as a surprise. As an extension of LTE, utilizing a wider bandwdith than regular LTE, support for the service wouldn't be hard to find among more recent devices, and, for now, the G3 is as recent as it gets.

Verizon has put up the pre-order page for the LG G3, with a small note saying that it will start shipping July 17. The smartphone is offered at $99.99 per month with a 2 year contract, $29.99 under Verizon EDGE, or $599.99 for the full price.
