With $1 worth 3GS eating away at the bottom of Android, Android OEMs are looking at a bottomless pit… It’s deep dark and cold there.

Coming to more serious thoughts, if Google wants to keep Motorola mobility alive and not let it be eaten alive by Asian manufacturers who have complete control of the components- Google needs to offer Nexus branded phones exclusively for Motorola ( unlike now where it is going with HTC or Samsung)

To build this thought even further- imagine if Google turns into Apple and henceforth makes Android new versions beyond ICS exclusive to Motorola- Google can become the next Apple! Googlorola can now suck up the profits in mobile business competing on profits with Apple. In one masterstroke Google can end the problems of fragmentation in Android forever. The world will be an oligopoly between Googlorola and Apple. Google has the opportunity to dominate with real dollars behind the domination – not like now where it gets bits and pieces giving Android away for free with the hopes of selling ads through services tied to end users. Googlorola has the opportunity to sell phones of the same order as Samsung or Apple today – 100 million p.a. and even more if they make the new versions of Stock Android exclusive for Motorola. Plus they will have the die hard brand loyalty from Geeks and Nerds and all those customizations loving crowds for a long long time.

I say let Samsung, HTC, Sony et. al. fend for themselves. With preexisting Android open source versions let them fend for themselves! Let the new versions of Android be exclusive to Motorola. End the open handset alliance – the existing members can take care of themselves. It’s time that Android profits remain in USA at Google.
