We hate the upgrades, not all of them. but it has bogged the phone down. battery runs down so fast. Lost ringtones associated with contacts – our phones are a mess!!!!!!

actuall got mine today but if i were you id wait on it cause it locks up the phone and removes all photos and alot of social media isnt working and this was on all three of the phones ive seen update it.. id let the bugs work out first post pone it as along as possible

Hi. I am A VZW indirect rep and I will have you know that the information i state is NOT from Verizon but from calling multiple customer service departments for MOTO, Google, And Verizon themselves a BUNCH. Firstly the Update started around the EASTERN coast (NY) and such on 6/22/12. It was realeased to 1000 lucky participants. Then as they upgrade to it. They leave the queue and then another lucky customer gets the update. Kind of like a chain with 1000 links. It would not spread until the past links duty has been fulfilled. Now still 1000 is not many but as the time presses on they regionally have lengthened the NUMBER and the REGIONS that they have release already and WILL be releasing. They just wanted to avoid having a FULL update then MANY MANY MANY customers going crazy from a bad update. SO for the sense of damage control it makes sense. I have yet to receive this beautiful update and am still eagerly awaiting. ALSO . Although I may work for VZW keep in mind that your forum leader is pretty spot on. You should listen more.

I’m glad you have your information correct (insert sarcastic tone here). On the contrary, Mr. Blogger, ICS is in fact still in the “testing” phase according to Motorola’s website (Reference: https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c). No word yet as to exactly when it will be pushed to consumers. P.S. Verizon has not confirmed the roll-out. I’ve learned that ones “sources” are only as reliable as the information they are allowed to have. Think about it… I’ll be surprised if this post passes the editors filter.

This is an absurd statement. Your device isnt compatible with newer software. It was released in 2008 and was a incremental upgrade from the original. The 3gs is still being supported, and its upgradeable to iOS 6 in the fall. As of ios 5, devices can sync wirelessly and update over the air. No computer connection required. In addition, you can backup and restore from icloud. No computer required. Educate yourself beforw posting.

I got updated this morning phone is a lot better with data connection and voice interaction. Also the swiping is a lot better 2. You are going to love it when you get it like having a mini laptop or tablet.

I got a notice on my phone saying that I would get a new software update within a week. I did get an email asking me if I wanted to be a part of the soak test but I guess I never got the opportunity. I wish I had ics right now!

Considering the vast number of android phones versus the one and only iPhone, it’s reasonable to assume that it takes much more time to roll out an update. Only 7.1% of all android phones actually run ICS. You should feel grateful you’re not in the remaining 92.9% of all other android phones.Furthermore, all of android’s updates are sent out over the air, meaning the user doesn’t have to do anything but accept the license agreement. No wires, no mess, no extra installation. Apple’s require the user to download their new iOS through iTunes, however they arbitrarily cut off customers every 2 updates or so. I’m still using an iphone 3G with iOS 4. At least with Android, there’s an enormous developer community (also known as xda) that provides updates that Google (or the carriers) aren’t willing to provide themselves. If people are unhappy with the update schedule, they should root their phone and update it themselves.

Sensible, though annoying. If there are any major hiccups, they want to catch them early. Staggered releases have been common for Verizon for ages. Which is weird, given how rigorously they test, but then the travails we had with my wife’s Droid Incredible (releasing a buggy update that makes it nigh impossible to install the update that fixes the bugs…) suggest that their QA is still missing the ball sometimes.

The difference (from a happy Razr Maxx owner): Apple releases their update and then all the phones get it immediately. Google releases it, and then all the phones get it six months later… At the least, one of them is a heck of a lot better for the marketing. The WWDC Keynote was a perfect example of this: they explicitly riffed off of the low uptake rate for ICS. And by the time this phone gets ICS, they’re already teasing JB, and probably announcing it within a couple weeks. It’s likely JB will be live on some phones before ICS is on all the targets it will actually hit (the Bionic, for example).

Google’s story would be a lot stronger if they could push the carriers and OEMs a bit harder on this point. At least they’re all “committed” to getting updates for 18 months. We’ll see how long that plays out, though.

Yes, root is possible. Download this utility (yes its large, though designed for much more than just ICS Rooting) http://d-h.st/tHT . Connect your phone via usb cable, turn it to ANY OPTION EXCEPT MASS STORAGE, have USB debugging enabled, run option 5 (ICS Root). Phone will reboot twice, youre rooted.
