The Andorid 2.1 upgrade to my Verizon HTC Droid phone has rendered it barely usable. The worst problem is that after a full charge, my phone now will hold a charge only about 4 hours. If I use the phone at all, it's 2 hours. Before the upgrade, I could use it heavily for 6-8 hours before charging it. Because of the mobile nature of my work, this phenomenon makes my phone close to unusable--and I depend on my phone to get my job done.

To attempt to address this problem, I've re-installed the Advanced Killer App and set it to do what it was doing before the upgrade. But that didn't help.

I called Verizon support, and all they could tell me to do is turn off GPS satellite usage for maps. That didn't help.

There was another problem with the upgrade. When I was asked to allow the upgrade to occur, I was not warned that all of my settings would be destroyed. If I had been told that, I would not have allowed the upgrade. It took me easily 3 hours to put my phone back in the order it was in before the upgrade. I did all of that work, and now it operates worse.

First you are confusing the Droid Eris with the Nexus One (both mfr by HTC)
Second Different processors...you can't compare the two. (From the HTC phones and Motorla Droid)

Its like comparing a Apple Computer with a PC...the inherent differences in the architecture of the processes doesn't allow for direct linear comparisons...

Nexus One has the 1-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
The Moto Droid has 550-MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor
HTC Eris has 528-MHz Qualcomm MSM7600 processor

If you just look at the "Numbers" you would believe that the Nexus One is 2x the speed of the Moto Droid...in actual application...it simply isnt true. You would also believe that the Motorola Droid is slightly faster than the HTC Droid ERIS...which is not true as well...

Also...as the Moto Droid has the Android 2.0 vs Nexus One's Android 2.1 there are going to be some efficiency differences as well.

Moto Droid will get it pretty soon...this month some time by all accounts.

Every review I've seen as well as personal trials with the ERIS vs Droid...no comparison...the Motorola Droid Flat smokes the ERIS. The Nexus One vs the Motorola Droid...Nexus One is slightly faster...not 2x.

I have 2.1 on my Motorola Droid. I had to root my Droid and install it my self through Nandroid. I may have the link saved not sure found a cool link that had the five homescreens and the newer Gallery from 2.1 ported to 2.0.1 it also had a home screen upgrade with three buttons for both 2.0.1 and an upgrade for 2.1 with the three button setup at the bottom I cant find it again though. I had that installed first It works pretty well I still have the files to Root and the 2.1 Flash image saved I may even have the apk files saved for the porting of 2.1 homescreen and gallery. All apps work fine with my 2.1 update (hack?) though the phone freezes once or twice a day and automatically restarts takes maybe a minute very fast operating system very few prolems when running apps or browsing reastarts are quick and homescreens work relatively well. I am relatively happy with it hope they work the bugs out and do an OTA update.

No offense to the above people, but I kinda doubt flyingturtle got 2.1 yet. More people would have mentioned they got it as well. It was most likely a late sending/upgrading of the last OTA pushed for the Droid Eris.

Well the Nexus doesn't run CDMA, so it won't be offered on Sprint's or Verizon's network. As far as advantages, the Nexus has a 1GHz processor, which is nearly 2x as fast as the Droid's. So, the Nexus will provide for faster multitasking over a Droid running the same 2.1 OS. Obviously the processor won't be running at 1GHz all the time for battery life, but when taxed, should show noticeable improvement in performance over a Droid. I love my Droid though.
