If Verizon capped side loads, etc., then I’d say it’s certainly not a ‘pure’ Google phone…

Ummm, Nexus phones are made in collaboration with other companies, but they are made to *Google’s spec sheet,* so if you want to get into semantics, *there is no reason Google would have a phone made that could not support its initiatives.* The whole thing smells like bull to me, and you’re the idiot for laying down and taking it.

And it’s a big deal, because allowing carriers to deprive consumers of options with impunity will only set the precedent that we’ll allow the carriers to do whatever they want with us. Screw that.

I smell bullcrap. Why would Google make a piece of Android hardware that could not support Google Wallet? How can “commercial talks” resolve a hardware issue?

This is just Verizon being protectionist, and we should bring a class-action case against the bastards to regain control of *our* hardware!

This is what happens when a giant like Verizon dictates it terms and will happen more if At&t-T-mobile get merged. SO there will be no choice for companies like Google and Apple to innovate and earn money from NFC. Also people will have no choice either and as usual we all will find more problems with our wireless bills than before and these bloody Telecom companies will make money from all side and make our life harder than what they show us.

Google wallet was never a “key feature”. You can still transfer information, etc. between phones using NFC.

And “Verizon does not block applications” What happen to HTC Hub, it’s not on Thunderbolt even though it’s supposed to be.

As said in the article, the “hardware issue” is that Google Wallet is on a part of the phone that Verizon has proprietary control over. Google Wallet can work on the phone, Verizon just won’t allow it to be added because it goes somewhere where Verizon doesn’t want it to be. The “commercial talks” could easily solve the issue. Verizon is probably just being douches about it because of Isis.

Really? Just what sort of “commercial talks” could possibly solve a “hardware issue”?
Something tells me a switch needs to be flipped, and it’s a switch that Verizon doesn’t want flipped.
Of course, Google isn’t totally innocent here. I’m certain they jumped through all sorts of hoops just to get a “nexus” (small ‘n’, in quotes) phone on Verizon.

Verizon really needs to come to terms with the fact that they are a big, dumb data pipe over which the true innovation — from Google, from Samsung — flows.

US cellular carriers are probably the most horrible, pathetic and desperate companies in the country.
