A member of Howard Forums is claiming to have unlocked his Verizon BlackBerry Storm for use on T-Mobile’s GSM network. The process involved sourcing a SIM unlock code from Verizon themselves, then updating the handset’s service books with software intended for the BlackBerry Bold.

The end result is a smartphone that can be used with T-Mobile’s 2G voice network and Verizon’s 3G data network, though not at the same time. GSM or CDMA selection can only be switched between, not simultaneously active. However VZ Navigator reportedly works as usual with both Verizon and T-Mobile’s networks.
While unlocking your Storm using a Verizon-supplied SIM code will not affect the warranty, reflashing it with third-party software will likely leave you high & dry should something later go wrong. That, plus the absence of US 3G compatibility, leaves us not recommending this hack to others.

should i be the first or latest to post that VZNavigator is borderline useless compared to similar 3rd party apps from other north american providers and that deleting VZNavigator from your locked/CDMA storm will substantially increase it’s speed and functionality. VZ Nav is by far the worst thing to ever happen to 4.3 and higher BlackBerry’s on VZW.
I can confirm this,
what code did you ask for when you called verizon
I am successfully using my Verizon Blackberry storm on T-Mobile. :)
I called verizon to request a code, but they said they can’t give me one if i don’t have a plan with them so I bought an unlock code
Got the code last night, unlocked the storm and have been using it successfully on T-Mobile since.
I must say, it gets excellent reception on T-mobile (I am in Los Angeles)
Now all I have to do is download the service books :)
I’m currently with Tmobile (for 9 yrs), and I’m considering purchasing a Storm so I can unlock it & use it with Tmobile. Do you HAVE TO get the unlock codes from Verizon or will Tmobile unlock the phone for you? Also, when u use your Tmobile SIM card in the Storm, are all of your contacts, etc, still available?

Verizon version is not GSM, so you can’t unlock it to use with T-Mobile
