Verifone PAYware Mobile e355 goes for one size fits all

Mobile payments aren't exactly new, even if Apple has just recently joined the game. Adoption and support, however, have been slow and one reason for it is the cost of maintaining and upgrading both hardware and software to support a fast-moving smartphone industry. That is why Verifone is coming up with a new mobile Point of Sale system (mPOS) that not only supports multiple mobile payment types, it can also support different device form factors as well as different mobile operating systems.

Verifone suggests that aside from the initial costs of migrating to a mobile payment system, one of the biggest deterrents facing vendors is the prospect of having to update those systems whenever a new OS, payment method or hot device comes out. And in the mobile industry, that can happen at most twice or thrice a year. It also doesn't help that competing mobile payments are, unsurprisingly, mutually exclusive most of the time.

The PAYware Mobile e355 mPOS aims to put vendors at ease by trying to accommodate all of these. The device itself is like a forward-looking mPOS that can fit both existing and upcoming device form factors. And it also supports the mobile payment systems of the major platforms such as Android, iOS (Apple Pay), and Windows. It is also flexible enough to have room for other types of payments like EMV, NFC, and ye ol' magnetic stripe. The device supports connectivity from Bluetooth, WiFi, and USB. As a bonus, the e355 mPOS even has an option for a barcode scanner.

Verifone has yet to reveal full retail details about the PAYware Mobile e355 but says that the device will be available later in summer this year.
