vantecusb30-sgI am really looking forward to USB 3.0 products. Particularly I want a USB 3.0 external hard drive to store my backups. I am tired of waiting for my slow USB 2.0 drive to complete the task. I was really bummed when I found out that Intel would not be supporting USB 3.0 until 2011.

Thankfully, we don’t have to wait until 2011 to get USB 3.0 on our existing machines, assuming you have a vacant PCIe slot. Vantec already has a USB 3.0 add-in card that it announced. Today the company has announced it will have USB 3.0 enclosures available soon as well.

The new enclosures are in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch form factors and will be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports. The new enclosures will be part of the Vantec NexStar 3 Hard Drive Enclosure line. The new products are expected to hit retailers next year at undisclosed prices.
