Great read! The mobile payment / wallet is finally a realty. With the new Durbin Rule, the lower interchange fee of using debit cards than credit actually helps consumers adapt to using mobile phones to purchase and do small cash transactions.

Key drivers for mobile payment and commerce will include loyalty, voucher and bonus schemes to entice customers to “tap and pay” with their mobile devices. The relationships between banks, merchants, consumers, and card/payment companies will become very complex.

Being said, the "presentment' part of EBPP is absolutely changing to fit this mobile/tablet trend but the Billing and Settlement pieces are still lagging behind what this new mobile economy needs. For example, the ability to settle transactions with partners and suppliers in the payment value chain is the key competitive advantage for the banks/payment service providers, and ability to analyze trends and transactions on mobile dashboard for consumers as well as for service providers is another key requirement.

There's a recent webinar about Alt. Payment, it helps me generate the insights above. - check it out. http://w.on24.com/r.htm?e=471906&s=1&k=0434F20CC536B99B92D5E9E221896B83
