Update on the Folding@home project

It's been a little while since we last reported on the impact the PS3 has had on the Folding@home program. Needless to say, it has provided a significant boost to the project.

To date, more than 250,000 PS3 users have signed up for the project, bringing nearly 400 teraflops of power. That's over double the amount of power brought by the rest of the PCs currently connected to the project. At any given time there is a total computing power of 700 teraflops.

What is really amazing is that the project has only been running for a month. Just imagine what could be done in a year's time. Vijay Pande, program lead for the Folding@home project had this to say, "Thanks to PS3, we have performed simulations in the first few weeks that would normally take us more than a year to calculate. We are now gearing up for new simulations that will continue our current studies of Alzheimer's and other diseases."
