Unreal Editor in VR puts you in the game as you edit [UPDATE!]

The crew at Epic Games have revealed an Unreal Engine VR editor for UE4 that places the developer within the level they're editing. Virtually. Using a virtual reality headset – the HTC VIVE in this case – the developer will be able to look around and edit the universe they're creating as they exist within said universe. It's difficult to explain without allowing you to see it, so head in to the video(s) we've got here, where your mind is about to be blown into pieces.

The first demonstration we've got video of here was captured at the first reveal of the editor on the 4th of February, 2016. This video isn't all that fantastic, but you'll get the idea right away.

UPDATE: here's the full first portion of the broadcast!

UPDATE 2: an even better video!

The editor is going to need you to have a set of hand controllers – which, lucky you, will be available with the HTC VIVE when it launches, and with the Oculus Rift when said controllers eventually launch.

"The feeling of it all is pretty wild," said Tim Sweeny, Epic Games CEO. "I have dreams about this. It's me in the world, in VR. [Once you've used the editor,] it's actually quite disappointing to have to take the headset off."

Stick around as we continue to gather details on how and when this VR version of the Unreal Engine 4 editor will be available to the public. Soon, we'd hope!
