Uncharted 4: A Thief's End multiplayer modes, maps will be free

Details have been dropped on the multiplayer for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, with the first and foremost tidbit being that future multiplayer modes and maps will be arriving in the game for free. As well, all of the gameplay and vanity items available in the in-game store will also be obtainable through ordinary (read: free) gameplay. The idea, says the game's creator, is to have a game that "won't be fragmented by different types of DLC."

A bunch of details on the multiplayer were made available today, with the company saying that its DLC plans "represent an entirely new direction for Naughty Dog, and we are confident it will have a hugely positive impact and keep the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer community thriving." What all does the planned multiplayer process include?

The company said it wants "Fairness first" as part of its DLC philosophy, as well as an evolving experience, everyone to have content, and the community as a whole to be unified in its experiences. To help even the playing field, so to speak, the company says it created the currency Relics that are earned via gameplay.

To keep things evolving, Naughty Dog plans to give gamers access to new modes, items, and maps over time at no extra cost. No one will be able to get a DLC item using Uncharted Points exclusively, meaning everyone can ultimately get the items, helping keep things open to everyone. Gamers will have daily challenges to complete, Relics to earn, access to Vanity and Gameplay Chests, and no pay-to-win options.

The game arrives May 10.
