I’d definitely buy this. I’ve gone through a number of Android handsets – was very disappointed with the Android experience (mainly due to stuttering/laginess caused by an ill designed rendering pipeline and the use of a JVM tier – see ‘Android Issue 6914′ for details of legacy Android lag).

I currently use a Nokia N9 as my daily driver. Even with it’s PowerVR SGX530 GPU from 2007, it’s still super responsive and smooth (although it does lag out when under load sometimes – but this is the exception rather than the rule).I love Ubuntu, can’t wait for Ubuntu mobiles and tablets.

I really like/use Ubuntu and all, but that is the ugliest color of purple I have ever seen… what was wrong with brown?

Yeah pretty sure this info is a load of crap based off nothing. Ubuntu with Android is the only phone related project they are working on it would be a waste of time and resources to work on a completely new phone OS when Android already has over 60% market share.

I think Canonical means ‘ubuntu for android’ is an intermediate project. It comes true in 2014. When ubuntu is available for desktop, laptop, tablet, smartphone and who knows what else!

Why would they even want to do this? Isnt Ubuntu for Android pretty much the optimal solution?

Spend more time working on that and you’ll have a massive userbase for sure.

I’ll buy it – but to be a commercial success, it will need a unique advantage for “normal” buyers and really strong marketing.
