I think this is a good idea - provided normal Linux applications can be used. And provided a suitably large display is used. (My 10" Android tablet is unsatisfactory, as few Android programs look ok on such a big display.)
I hope this new Linux can revive the Personal Computer by getting rid of that frustrating multiuser environment, with messages like: This file doesn´t belong to you.

I could see it going somewhere, at least to a certain type of consumer. I liked Debian with the N800 (before they took away gtalk video support- but that was Nokia and Google, not linux). The OS itself was very nice. I doubt they will have the host usb capability like the n800, even so I would say it could compete with other OS's if it were given a chance. The linux feel is good for people who have used it in other platforms and it is open source, which is always a plus. The growth of it as a "brand" depends on the carrier that supports it and the knowledgeably of the consumer, which is usually not in the favor of linux. So, we'll see where this goes.

Definitely not wasting everyone's time.
My every install of, no mater Debian or Ubuntu or Arch on more than 5 machines, Mac, Dell, HP, all works well out of the box. Wifi is not ever a problem. 3G USB card can be recognize without any tweak.
I am very curious what problems did your ubuntu box have. Would you like to elaborate more?
FYI, never use Wubi install. If you did wubi install, you should try a fresh install.

I'm a non-techie who has at the fringe working knowledge to fiddle with pc's. I've installed os's onto my blackberry, installed ubuntu on several pc's only to remove it due to its persistent short comings.Ubuntu worked on some pcs , not on others, common functions didn't work, major problems connecting to wifi etc. Persnally I doubt theycan do it justice.

If ubuntu can make an os for android phones that is truely fully functional and as good as or better in function with all the features of android, it may make a nich for itself. I would try it out but if it worked as hit or miss as ubuntu, than, they are wasting everyones time.
