Uber, Samsung bring free ride to S6, S6 edge owners

How's this for synergy? Uber and Samsung are partnering to bring Galaxy S6 and S6 edge owners in the United States free rides. In the Galaxy Gifts widget on the two new flagships from Samsung, owners will see an Uber certificate for a free ride (valued up to $25). To take advantage, Galaxy S6 or S6 edge owners will also need the Uber app installed on their new smartphone. That free ride is only for new Uber users, so if you've already had the pleasure of renting space in someone's car, you're out of luck.

Uber says they'll "offer discounts to users in additional countries in the coming months."

To that, the goal seems to be worldwide ride-sharing dominance for Uber. As the service pushes into other countries in Asia, making a home on Samsung devices could encourage some to use the service ahead of the competition. A free ride (hopefully) never hurt anyone.

Uber also says "we are excited about the combination of Samsung's reach and Uber's global footprint – in 300 cities across 56 countries – that means riders around the world can get wherever they need to go, whenever they choose with the simple touch of a button."

Uber has also been adding services recently, like rickshaws in India and breathalyzer tests in Canada. Unfortunately, Uber faces more than competition; several cities have banned Uber for one reason or another, mostly relating to the nature of the service as pay-for-pickup service.
