mk1231gah 270x174Toshiba announced two new 1.8-inch hard drives. The MKxx31GAL series features a single-platter 120GB model and the MK2431GAH series, which is the very first dual-platter, 240GB internal hard drive.

Both hard drives use Parallet ATA interface, using 344 gigabits psi. They also utilize the fourth-generation of perpendicular magnetic recording technology, a type of tech Toshiba themselves introduced.

These new hard drives have firmware and mechanical enhancements to promote greater durability, as well. The dual-platter is intended for mobile PC devices and even camcorders. They both, however, use less energy than that of their predecessors and spin at 4,200rpm. With 8MB of cache, they achieve greater read/write performance and will be used in consumer electronics and some mobile products this holiday season. Perhaps a 240GB PMP is in our future.
