TUL suitcase arrives on Kickstarter with built-in scale

When it comes to air travel, finding the right combination of size, weight, and items can be tricky, and more often than not you find yourself hauling the suitcase onto the bathroom scale to see if it'll meet your airliner's weight limitations. The TUL suitcase aims to erase that hassle via an integrated scale.

The TUL suitcase features a small battery-powered display that displays the suitcases's weight when the lid is closed, allowing travelers to instantly see how light or heavy their suitcase is. This is achieved via an integrated weighing scale, with both embedded sensors and electronics keeping tabs on the weight.

To help keep the sensors and related hardware safe during the often brutal luggage-shipping process, the TUL also features a so-called protection jacket that wraps around the outside of the suitcase. Called the PoronXRD, this protective sleeve is impact-resistant, and has the added benefit of keeping scratches and dents at bay.

The jacket wraps around the luggage and is secured in place with velcro. Other features include water resistance, a TSA-approved lock, multiple pockets, and wheels. The TUL is being funded through Kickstarter, where it is aiming for $95,000 with 19 days left.
