I get lousy battery life in standby mode. All I have to do is fully charge my Adam (wi-fi, pq, 3g version) and leave it in standby mode and the batteries will be drained in 2 days. That's without any use at all. It appears that Android is operating as if my Adam was a phone and is sucking down battery life trying to be a phone.

I am an Indian and I would like to state that NI is doing enormous damage to India's image with issues related to refunds, order booking, hardware issues, mis-information and misrepresentation. NI and Rohit are always talking about how they are going to change the world, east is going to beat west and other things aimed at glory and not focussed on the nitty gritties. This pursuit of greatness is bound to fail without a sense of duty.

Andre Rodrigues' Eden UI is a failure. Panels is a failure. They should have built a direct relationship with Google. Why didn't they?

With that said I bought an Adam and it's fun to have. However, I want Honeycomb on it.

The launcher feature could be nice with some tweaking though.

You bring up a good point. Did anyone thought of why NI still keep their device out of those big blogs? I don't think they are too poor to even send one unit to one big blog if the CEO could buy an air ticket to fly to CES and a group of their workers could fly back and forth to China for checking the devices. The only logical reason why they don't even send one unit to a big blog to prove them wrong and promo their unit is that NI understand that their devices have so many problems to prove them right in stead of prove them wrong.

Pasting Kam Sui's comments from the Notion Ink Blog -

So ever since Slashgear published that article about Notion Ink Adam’s poor battery life, i went ahead and did a little time lapse video trying to see how quickly the battery drained while playing back a video clip.

The video is composed of two parts, showing a 1 hr battery drain with a playback of a media video. The video being played is a 1080p divx avi file straight from the SDCARD2 directory. There are two drains done — one in Pixel Qi Color and the other is B/W mode both at 50% brightness, 50% Sound Volume, Wifi – OFF, Bluetooth – OFF, GPS – OFF, Sync – OFF. MVideoPlayer was used as the playback device.

Please view the video to see final result!

I know that, the point was not about the numbers, it was regarding facts that no matter if you choose lower or higher assumption the percentage is very small. Even 6 sigma does not expect 100%. This is NI's first production run, assuming perfection and making big headlines is nothing but nitpicking. Every problem should be reported, just don't make it a headline projecting catastrophe..

Naysayer arguments basically boil down to demanding that the perfect be the executioner of the good.

Any device manufactured in the kind of volume that NI has done so far, with the low volume of test units, will have this kind of defects in manufacturing (and in design for manufacturing). You don't see as many of these kinds of defects (though you do absolutely see them) on devices from Apple, Motorola, Lenovo, etc., because they have manufacturing test runs that are larger than NI's pre-order run.

People at certain American* tech blogs ([koff!] John Biggs! [koff!] TechCrunch!) have come right out and said -- repeatedly, and ad nauseum -- that only fools order devices from small companies. It follows from that that all progress not the result of work by large, established players -- or at least, startups with very very deep VC pockets -- happens on the backs of fools. It also is a fair inference from that sentiment that if you can't be perfect out of the gate, you should just go home and not try.

Much of this is sour grapes. As far as my research can divine, the Adam anti-boosterism movement started with TechCruch and Engadget, who were heavily invested (karmically if not financially) in the success of the so-called "CrunchPad", which tanked admid mutual accusations of swindling and underhanded dealing. Note that that's what Biggs and his compatriots have accused NI of: Outright swindling has been insinuated, double-dealing, underhandedness.

I know and its one of the reasons i liked slashgear... but how is this article fair exactly? Slashgear has been directly in contact with Rohan previously but since launch they have just been posting articles without any verification from NI.. Did the author try and contact Rohan regarding their apparent troubles over the ui director leaving? Or the article about them stalling purposely more than 7 days which ends with.. "what do you think ? time to think of other tablets.." Really? You give the one most negative account of this tablet and then ask everyone suggestively that other tablets might be better? Why not post any of the numerous positive experiences? Not exactly fair is it?

(4/X) do the math, even 6 sigma allows some defects..

Being so vocal, adam community would have made it amply clear that they are not happy with the battery life, it seems majority are.. the blog writer should be ashamed of creating false headlines...
