Transformers was easily one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer. It did incredibly well at the box office, so it’s no surprise that DVD sales have done great as well. What is a bit surprising is that it is now the best-selling HD DVD title to date.

Transformers

The movie sold more than 100,000 copies on HD DVD in the first week, and over 190,000 overall. That makes it not only the best-selling HD DVD title, but the top-selling high definition title.

It’s actually a little sad that this movie didn’t get released on Blu-ray. I imagine that it would have done just as well on either format. However, Paramount received a hefty donation from the HD DVD camp to only release it on the one high-def format. When will this format war end?
