Toyota 2013 Avalon revealed

Toyota has revealed its new 2013 Avalon, the sleek sedan teased last month, at the New York Auto Show ahead of its market launch later this year. Boasting more headroom than its predecessor, along with a new concave dash design that leaves more space for front-seat passengers, the updated Avalon also gets high-intensity discharge headlamps, the Star Safety System gamut of electronic tricker to keep you on the road, and ten – count 'em – airbags as standard.

Inside, Toyota has thrown the spec book at the 2013 Avalon. Leather trim for the seats, gear-knob and wheel mean your primary touch-points are all cow-related, while the rest of the dash gets soft-touch plastic and "smoked chrome-metallic accents." There's also "soft white" ambient lighting for key areas of the dash, and a USB port, AUX-in and three 12v power sockets for hooking up and recharging your phone or PMP.

A 6.1-inch touchscreen is standard, with a 7-inch version paired with a JBL Synthesis Premium Audio system and HDD Premium Navigation is an option. You can also have dynamic radar cruise control, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, and a 3-zone air-con system, all for a price.

Powerplants will be routed through three drive modes – Normal, Eco and Sport – with various preconfigured setups to suit each style; there'll also be paddle-shifting. What Toyota isn't saying is exactly which engines it will be offering; they'll presumably be detailed later in the year and closer to launch, when we'll hear pricing as well.
