This is a known issue from people picking up their thrives the wrong way if you dont handle it like a barbarian this wont happen, no where on the box does it say its made of gorrila glass

I just bought one – and I love it. It is on the heavier side but – it is just as good an the iPad i think it’s better because it has the HDMI port.

Pros:
I have had one for about 4 months and bought another from a WOOT sale for $279 in January. They are great tablets and the ports are what sold me on the device. I found that when I plugged in my USB wireless keyboard/mouse combo it worked perfectly with no driver or related issues with even the mouse moving an arrow curser on the screen. (An excellent option when I plug it directly into my 64″ TV through HDMI) Another benefit with the low costs on SDMI and USG storage devices I can carry every song in my library with me on long trips and my downloaded movies/TV shows. I do not mind the extra bulk and love the ability to replace or add an additional battery when needed.

Cons:I HATE the flush power button and wish they had molded a bump or something on it to make it easier to push without looking for it. The LEDS are also too bright but I just covered them up partially with my daughters black nail polish. Would like a back cover with a built-in stand available.

Don’t buy Toshiba Thrive! Owned for less than 2 months and the screen cracked under normal use. Crack starts under chrome piece at camera. Appears to be a stress crack from design flaw. Toshiba does not warranty cracked screens and insists that there is no design issues. Finding numerous photos from other owners online, the cracks all begin in the same place. They will only repair the tablet at their price and my expense. I think NOT!!

I have had my thrive for about two weeks now i love it, it really isnt that bulky. This device helps me for school currently studying to be paramedic. A couple of things i love about it is usb port and hdmi port so useful and i can change out the battery in which i prolly wont have to for awhile. So i tell people waste your money ford a stupid over priced ipad

Its a Android required folder. Just like if you delete a (not too) vital folder in Windows when you restart it is automatically recreated for you.

If we could only get it to connect to a cell phone. I’d also love to know why everytime I look at the files on the Thrive and an inserted SD card I always see Lost Dir. I delete them in both places but see them again as soon as I power on and look.

I just ordered my Thrive this morning, got it for $379 with $80 gift card, it’s like only cost me $299. I’ve been watching all the reviews and video about the Thrive, I bet it is a steal with only $299. Gonna take a sick day on Thursday and wait for my Thrive to arrive.

I got Thrive in July and absolutely love it. Weight is not an issue. I have taken it twice to Europe and used it on plane to watch movies (from USB drive). I have skype installed and the call quality is good. Picture quality is good even in low light conditions. Thrive has everything I wanted in a tablet.

Try using an older 3g or newer 4g USB modem. As long as you’re on the network, you should be able to manually setup a dial-up connection. Type in #777 and this will connect the modem to the network. Good luck. :)

Get a 3g or 4g Mifi. We have been using one for about a year with ipods, laptops, cell phones, os3, tv, anything with wifi access. The mifi gives you 5 connections. The only downside is that verizon’s is limited at present to 5GB for $50/month or 10 GB for $80/month. Sprint has the same device and I’m told they have unlimited. You could use up 5GB pretty damn fast on 4g at 12-14Mbit speeds lol

I have owned my Thive for 2 weeks now. The screen is quick to the touch which is great. The bulkiness is worth it and it is easy to handle. I will be trying the 123 copy DVD gold program to put movies on it today and this where the ports into play for versitility It’s a fast device and I just bought a 16g card to double memory from 16 to 32. The I pad is way overpriced. On the negative side this tablet does not stream Netflix at least for now.

Hello I just bought a Thrive and for once I seem to be almost on the cutting edge. However seems Verizon does not make an application to adapt their VZ Access manager for air cards to this device. I travel alot and really wanted to be able to use that air card. does anyone have any ideas? I also do not see in the enclosed information this is not a Microsoft operating system?

Wow, that has got to be one of the best hardware reviews that I have seen in quite a while. Between viedo, write up and layout of the whole artical.
As for the topic, looks like great hardware. I do desktop troubleshooting and having full size ports (USB &SD) this looks like a realy great tool for anyone that done mobile support from in house to on the road. I hope they keep up and develiping this as I think it might have the business side covered as well if not better in time that the iPad.

Toshiba should be congratulated for making a boldly differentiated product than what others are doing. This tablet doesn’t appeal to me because I don’t lecture or need to constantly connect my tablet to do thingsmy laptop or Blu Ray player does. I need it thin light, as much battery life as possible, and have a superior browsing experience. For ME, Toshiba has built a backwards product, devolving a tablet into a halfbreed tablet netboo without a keyboard. The glasses half full side of me likes the file management flexibility and the potential of more compelling media possibilities with those full sized ports if and when applications can make better use of them.

Once you get past the “over-inflated-negative-review” comments; this looks much more practical than the “skinny” run-way “models” approach to a small computer that “Baby-Boomers” can read, store data, and carry an “extra-battery” for extended mobile computing. Wow, a replaceable battery !!!
