Toshiba have taken the (tiny) wraps off of their latest 1.8-inch SATA hard-drive, the MK2529GSG, which at 250GB is the largest drive of its size yet. The MK2529GSG measures 54 x 78.5 x 8mm and weighs 62g; it uses the highest on-platter memory density yet: 587.1Mbit / sq mm (378.8Gbit / square inch).

Toshiba have also added drop-detection, to park the HDD heads in case a device using the new drive is dropped. It spins at 5,400rpm and has an average seek time of 15ms.
Two other, lower-capacity drives are being announced also: a 160GB version and a 120GB version. The will enter mass production in November; no pricing has been revealed.
