Oh Boy, too many people get hung up on name and a couple of features that they really don't use or can be had elsewhere for free. I had a TiVo unit for a couple of years and then Got the DirecTV HD-DVR. I get my HD service free ($10 fee can be waived if you ask - I did 3 times) so my monthly DVR service is $6 and covers all 3 of my DVR's. Even though the TiVo interface is slick, it offers no more usable features than DirecTV's interface. Why would anyone pay for TiVo? I have Fios whole house HD-DVR as of last week and I'm pleased as well with the feature set and how it works. I continue to not understand how TiVo cna charge such outlandish prices for nothing better. As far as the streaming from Netflix and YouTube, I get that and a whole lot MORE from my LG BluRay player and don't have to pay additional money to be able to stream! Wow ! - $240 a year! Ouch!

tivo compared to regular DVRs is no comparison. the Directivo (SD) cost you the same as regular directv dvr $5 a month and if you went with cable you pay $2 for the cablecard rental(same as if you had a cablecard ready HDTV) instead of the $12 Comcrap dvr fee so it isn't the big price upper you make it out to be especially when it offers more functionality(netflix, amazon VOD, youtube and more). heck comcast is even going to allow Xfinity VOD through the Tivo premieres soon though no word on what that will cost.

They are really going the wrong direction on this. I have two TIVOs and will not stand for major hikes given the shotty premiere release: resets all the time, has the slowest menus known to man and no updates to fix it, half implemented new UI, no real new features for setting up recordings, etc.

Tivo = Kirby of set top boxes(STB), never understood why anybody would pay so much money to a third party company to help them watch TV. Biggest STB scam's of last generation (ya younger generation won't fall for this kind of cr*p).

TiVo really has a good thing going. It was smart of them to come out with Premiere because everyone in the world is doing streaming.
