Tinder adds GIFs for more expressive messages

Tinder, the dating service of choice for today's youth, has just updated its popular iOS app to include support for Giphy, the service makes adding GIFs to messages a breeze. Now that the hit image format is available, users can include GIFs in their conversations with matches simply by tapping a button next to the text input box. You'll be able to browse through Giphy's library of animations, as well as search or view which images are trending.

Tinder suggests that GIFs will make the routine of that first message to a match a little less awkward a bit easier to kick off a conversation. Also new in the iOS update are larger displays of standard emoji in messages, as well as the ability to "like" messages directly by tapping the green heart next to each one.

Other useful features include that users can now update their Tinder profile pictures directly from their phone's photos, instead of requiring that new images be posted to Facebook first. iPhone 6s/6s Plus owners can also take advantage of 3D Touch gestures, with a firm press on links offering up previews.

Unfortunately for Tinder users on Android, GIFs and the other new features of this update are available on the iOS app. There's no word yet on when the Android app with be updated, but it seems likely to be in the near future.
