Nice article, Michael. Very similar to TDG's long-standing opinion on the AppleTV platform. In fact, TDG is expects Apple to announce a major upgrade to the platform in the first half of 2010 to address many of the shortcomings you mention. The time for being considered by Apple to be a "hobby" is past. The time for establishing a legitimate market present in the web-to-TV space is upon us and AppleTV as it stands will not cut it.

My family has four ATVs in our home, yeah it's fantastic to rent or buy movies, tv shows, music, etc. but the good thing is being able to stream thousands of family pictures over the big screen. The best thing is streaming those photos to music.
