TI opens semiconductor wafer fab in Chengdu, China

TI makes chips and all manner of processors for electronics devices and other gear that we all use every day. The company has announced that it is expanding its semiconductor fabrication capacity with the announcement of the purchase of a new fab facility in China.

The fab is the first that TI has in China and is located in Chengdu. TI reports that Chengdu is the next major tech hub in China. The fab will be known as TI Chengdu and will be used for analog production. The fab will be a 200mm manufacturing facility and was purchased from Cension Semiconductor Manufacturing company.

The fab has 120,000 square feet of space and can support more than $1 billion in annual revenue according to TI. TI also reports that there is a 134,000 square foot fab reserved for future production needs.
