I bought one of these mic's thinking that it would be great for my iPhone. It is clearly meant for a device that doesn't already have a built in mic, like an iPod Nano.

I did tests using the built-in iPhone 3G mic against the thumbtack mic. The Thumbtack boosts levels overall about 2dB more than the built-in. But the down side is that the Thumbtack clips and compresses the sound very harshly at normal or high volumes.

Overall, it's a total waist if you have an iPhone or iPod touch with a built-in mic. I really wanted it to work and did the best I could to make sure to use the same distances and volumes from my sound sources.
