I remember ipad users saying how android sucks because it doesn’t have a physical touch button. Seemed like a lame argument at the time. I have an android phone and an ipad and I know the home button on the ipad will wear out before the ones on my android do.

Naturally these same people will conveniently forget every argument they ever had where they said a physical button is much better than some touch sensitive doohickey.

Like i said, I’ll go ahead and concede the portrait thing; but I’m far more inclined to believe that they simply shopped out the button for a cleaner, simpler photo than i am to believe that they’ve made such a dramatic change to both their hardware and their software interface, especially without it being tipped sooner than one week before the announcement. I just think it’s a stretch based on that one pic. Just my two cents.

Actually I did the graphic. I was sceptical and thought it to be in landscape myself, but I wanted to determine it for sure. There were key aspects that had to line up, spacing of icons and the alignment of the wave in the dock between the icons, lastly the water droplets.

So I got 4 screenshots, portrait and landscape with 4 icons & the same again with 5 icons.

Once the invite graphic is rotated then perspective adjusted it’s just a matter of getting the icon square (enough).

It’s the only match, 5 icons in portrait. Water droplets and most importantly the wave where it passes behind the icons is a perfect match.

It is undeniable. Either they stuffed up trying to bring out the clarity on the retina display & just masked it with a bezel or there’s no home button/camera.

No doubt about it. Compare the actual invite photo to the overlay above and you’ll see they’re barely similar. Not Slashgear’s best effort here.

Although I have no doubt that Apple can and should eliminate the ugly home button, there is absolutely no convincing evidence from these pictures that the home button is gone, even if you assume the invite photo is in portrait mode. But that is quite an assumption considering the maps icon in the overlay photo CLEARLY is not the same size as the email icon underneath.

I bet it locks up more without the home button.

That said, it looked annoying on the bezel.

They could have put it on the side though.

Normally, hardware buttons are needed to override software…..maybe they’ve cracked it though, it is 2012 after all.
