This year's Puppy Bowl will be broadcast in VR

Even if you're not a football fan, the Superbowl is a pretty big deal, here in the US. Some get excited for the funny commercials that play during the big game, while others get excited about a little event that happens just before it. I'm talking, of course, about the Puppy Bowl. And this year the cute and fuzzy event is going to get a whole lot cuter.

Every year, Animal Planet hosts a bunch of cute puppies in their mini stadium, and dubs it the Puppy Bowl. While the pups don't actually play football, they tend to just roam around and play with toys, and jut look cute. And this year, you have the chance to see all of the adorable puppies up close and personal, with the magic of VR.

That's right, Animal Planet will be streaming the event using 360-degree video that's been specially designed for VR viewing. The VR stream will be found on YouTube, Animal Planet's website, Samsung's Milk app, and Discovery's mobile app. So strap on your Google Cardboard, or whatever VR headset you might have, and enjoy the Puppy Bowl like you've never enjoyed it before. For a taste, check out the Puppy Bowl XII highlight reel, which they put together as a VR test demo.

And in case you didn't know, the Puppy Bowl isn't just an excuse to let a bunch of cute dogs play around in a mini football stadium. Every one of them is from a rescue shelter, and the event is done to help raise awareness for animal shelters, and hopefully encourage people to adopt a new furry friend.
