If you’re a supporter of the HD DVD camp and you’re thinking about purchasing a new player to show your devotion, you might want to hold off another month or two. Toshiba has just unveiled their new third-gen line of HD DVD players.

The three new models will come in a much smaller package, being only about half the thickness of current players. The HD-A3 will be the entry model with 1080i output, The HD-A30 will bump you up to 1080p and CEC while the HD-A35 will give you HDMI 1.3 output and support for 5.1-channel analog and 7.1 HDMI surround output.

The first to arrive will be the mid-range HD-A30 which will show up sometime next month for $400, the HD-A3 and HD-A35 will debut in October for $300 and $500 respectively.

The entry level 720p/1080i makes a lot of sense seeing as how most of the HD TVs out there are of this kind.

It’ll be interesting seeing how the pricing works, RRP on the HD A2 is $299 right now and they’re available on the street or at Amazon at around the $240 level.
My bet is $200 easily by X-mas if not well before.

What price the coming 3 brands of Chinese HD DVD players?
