Prince you are absolutely right. iPhone users repeat the same baloney every single year.

In 2008 No one would buy Android because ATT was selling iPhone and iPhone is "better".

In 2009 even though people were buying Android no one would continue to buy Android because iPhone had a larger market share.

In 2010 even though Android had higher marketshare no one would continue to buy Android because iPhone 4 was coming to Verizon.

In 2011 the first half even though Android market share has not been affected by the introduction of the the iPhone 4 on Verizon, no one will continue to buy Android, because the iPhone 5 is coming out in June of 2011.

In 2011 the second half even though Android sales will not be affected by iPhone 5 on Verizon, people will not continue to buy Android because....a quad core processor is coming in iPhone 6...or iPhone will be selling on Tmobile..or the next iPhone will have NFC. Or it will do your dishes...or walk your dog. Etc.

Blah blah blah.

iPhone users...do you hear yourselves? You are desperate to prove the superiority of your mediocre platform.

Maybe...just maybe the reason why Android continues to dominate the world wide market...is not because of all those reasons I put up above. Maybe...JUST MAYBE...Android is dominating because people actually LIKE IT better than iPhone.

Think about it.

Exactly. Its going to be the same crap every year and I called it before it even started. Every year the iFools will claim Android is only selling because people are waiting for the next iPhone. The next one will come, the trend will continue, and they'll blame it on waiting for the next version. Meanwhile all the analysis and data has pointed to the same conclusion for over a year now and this article just adds to it. The only people buying iPhones are the folks that already have them. Thats why the market share is flat. Android is constantly bringing in new users.

This is a great time to be a consumer. Think back to what 'smartphones' were before the iPhone. Treo? Palm? BB? Competition will take smartphones to a whole new level, which is great for the consumer!

But what I don't get is why there seems to be so much religion around the OS. Why should consumers even be concerned with OS? Shouldn't they just focus on form/fit, application and service? This is Apple's model.

Apple has done a great job of migrating their iPod users, all who have a large investment in iTunes to iPhones. This makes sense. And then there is the portion of consumers that looks at the iPhone and iPad as the new toys to be seen with (status). These users only care about is form/fit, application and service. Ok, so AT&T has a bit of an issue with service today. AT&T and Apple are trying to unload a bunch of 3GS iPhones to consumers who cannot afford the $200 for an iPhone4 and will be happy to pay the $49 for an older iPhone so they can upgrade their iPod.

I'm not an iPod user, I have no investment in iTunes, and I don't care about being seen with the latest iFad. I had a BB, was investigating the iPhone and various apps when the censors in Cupertino decided to pull the apps from the app store because they either did not feel the apps were worthy of the iPhone or felt the developers extended the limits of the SDK. IMHO They should have made this decision BEFORE they approved the apps and sold them on their store. Leaving developers out in the cold with no way to sell the apps they developed (without the consumers jail breaking their phones) and leaving the consumers in the lurch because if they bought a new iPhone4 the applications could not be reloaded from the appstore, hence lost investment.

As a consumer, having a governing body deciding what I can and cannot use my device, based on their values bothers me. Does this mean they could start adding web content filters and limiting which websites I can browse? To me, if I purchase a smartphone, similar to a laptop, it is a platform for which I can run any apps I want. Yes, there are risks that some of the apps could be crap, but it is the consumers choice. For me, this was a biggest issue with the iPhone. It wasn't the phone, but rather the corporate policy that Apple would make the decision for the consumer.

I remember the iconic Apple ad of the runner running into the auditorium and throwing the sledge hammer into the screen of the talking head. This was Apple's way to tell consumers to take control and stop being led like sheep. Today it seems that maybe Google is the runner throwing the sledge hammer into the screen, but in this case, the talking head is Apple.

This is pretty shoddy analysis... The sales of an individual app are hardly a parameter of total sales of the phone. If the Verizon iPhone exceeded expectations and sold a million phones its first day that would represent a small percentage (<5%) of total iOS devices in the US (assuming this is US only data) and would not likely coincide with a noticeable increase in a single apps sales.

There's a lot of speculation about total sales and the fact that there weren't long lines at stores. As others have pointed out, many people are going to hang until iPhone 5 comes out. Others are migrating from BB, Droid at Verizon and coming in from other carriers.

What I have paid attention to with my local Verizon Wireless Stores - at least a couple of them - in the Seattle area is that traffic has been steady and sometimes a store runs out of supply for part of a day but the phones are replenished daily from shipments and/or taken from other stores in the area.

The iPhone is a sleek device and trumps my Droid X when it comes to the screen and intuitiveness of design that is Apple's forte. However, I'm happy with the Droid X and will look at multiple devices later this year as I consider the move to 4G.

It's kind of a case of "of course not".
Android has continued to progress, where the iOS has done nothing but iterate.

And the iPhone display is nice, but outside that there's little compelling in the hardware, other than it's nice and tidy and pocketable - but the range of Android devices lets you actually pick features you want in a phone - including a huge screen or a keyboard, or anything else you want. It's not "you'll take what we make and like it."

The iPhone was once revolutionary, but since then it's evolutionary - even when iPad came out. Essentially, what it does is equivalent to the dumping ground that is the master App Drawer in Android. There's no desktops, no widgets, no shortcuts or anything else to allow you to tailor to your specific use.

While there are many attractive Android devices on Verizon, I don't see the compelling reason, when you add an iPhone to the mix, that would lead you in that direction over an Android device. Especially for current Android owners - you'd have to sacrifice a lot of what you've come to know as standard functionality in moving to an iPhone.

So yes, lots of people who know nothing about smartphones might hear "iPhone" and go "Oh, I know what that is, I've heard of it", but outside of that segment (and yes, I know that's likely the majority, I've been on this planet a long time), for a shopper who is actually objective, iOS has simply (and very objectively) fallen behind.

So the iPhone sales at Verizon are a flop. It looks like the fragile health of the CEO is not the only reason for AAPL taking a dive last week. I wonder if the iPad 2 will have half of the improvements that people expect in order to be competitive with all new tablets...

Well, there are too many anomalies to take this seriously... i mean, the fact of the matter is that other newspaper apps must have gotten up in sales as well.. so they might still be #2.... even if app sales remained about the same, over 30% of Android users have switched over... and this is before even the iPhone 5 launch...
