Most people don’t buy the $199 iPhone… they want the latest and greatest. And they pay at least twice that for it. Then they pay for a month plan that can pay for a Vita in two months. People who play games know that control scheme is very important. Playing a game on a phone where all the controls are virtual and on the screen is sub-par. Phone games have a LONG way to go to replacing portable consoles.

I’m convinced this will NOT be their last portable because most people go along with this crap that people will be switching to iphones and ipads. There are still many of us who believe that a vita can process an infinitely better game than any phone would. The only games on smartphones are little time killing games and I think the people who believe a few time killing games can kill a whole industry of portable gaming are ridiculously out of line. Sont may not be making the best sales but they are making the highest quality portables and games on the market. A video game system shouldnt be a camera or a phone or a computer… It should be a VIDEO GAME SYSTEM because of they are buying a vita in the first place, they are not browsing the web on it or writing a document or using it to take professional pictures, they are using it because it has class leading graphics and enough processing power to rival the games of ps3 and xbox so nooo the gaming industry will not be killed by an iphone because they serve two different purposes

I hate that companies think that smart phones and ipads are a excuse for gaming platforms… that is just pathetic. I have a vita, 360, and a smartphone… tons of games for all of the above and I only use my phone for calls/text/email/utube… ios games are a sad direction that I hope things dont go that way. long live the hardcore gamer. we are the only ones who are important enough to impress any ways!!!

Well who in there right minds would want to buy a iphone and have to pay a bill each month 200 dollars or so depending on your preferance in plans just to play ga mes i hate contracts and wish they would figure out a way to make prepaid iphones with the same features as a contract for 50 bucks a month

My friend has the vita, and he can’t play his psone or mini games already purchased for the ps3 or psp. He would have to purchase “special” versions for the vita. RIP OFF.

My fat top of the line ps3 was $500 and only lasted 2yrs. It failed because of cheap parts and heat issues with the huge chipsets. My current slim model (a refurbished one purchased from Sony for $120 + my old broken ps3) has lasted longer already.

If the smart phone versus handheld game console had any credance then the PC would have killed the games console years ago.

Personally a handheld games console is much easier to play at this stage in my life than a PS3. I travel a lot with my job, and the handheld games console is very handy item when sitting at airports, on planes, and even in hotels with no/expensive Internet connections, or English TV.

For day to day use there’s the obvious daily “activity” which immediately springs to mind, which the PSP has long since replaced the traditional newspaper or novel. However I do worry about the loading times. I mean if I’m in there for much longer than I am with the PSP then the missus will be sending me to the doctors… “no I haven’t got bowl cancer the vita just takes forever to load”. I could always set up the game before I go, I suppose.

So there is an older generation of gamers where this is a very attractive machine. If I can run around shooting people in COD without my 4 year old seeing all the blood then it’s happy days for me.

Of course if you have kids and a wife then chances are you might not have the money, but if you do then this thing could be up there with Megan Fox.

I can’t stand playing games on either my iPhone or my iPad. The touch screen controls drive me nuts, the iPhone screen is too small, and the iPad is too large to comfortably play for any extended length of time. That’s why I have both a Nintendo 3DS and now a Vita (to replace my old PSP).

I think the portable systems will stick around for some time. You can’t really play a full fledged game on a touchscreen phone. For example First Person shooters. It just doesn’t work in my opinion. I’d rather have physical buttons. Yes the mobile market has tons of games coming out but those games are only good for a couple levels. I have an iPhone and have some of the best games on it (Chrono Trigger, Infinity Blade, Chaos Rings and so on) these games are good but in my personal opinion physical buttons would work a lot better.

Honestly, games on iPhones and Android phones aren’t that great at all. Its fun for the first few levels, then the games done. The Vita lets you enjoy even more, with games that actually have a good story that aren’t possible on a phone. Physical buttons are the way to go, touch-only just doesn’t cut it. The Vita shouldn’t even be compared to the iPhone, that’s all i here nowadays. It should be Vita vs 3ds. Game systems vs game systems. People who just prefer a phone should stick with there phone games, while people you want a Vita too can experience a better way to play.

i could not Disagree with u more as a proud owner of the playstation vita and extensive use of as manyfeatures the vita offers this vita i feel will definitely sell well over its lifeline. Also at its highest price point $299 for wifi and 3G its a very good price for what the vita has to offer. The vita not only offers great games with awesome graphics for a portable u can surf the net which in my opinion works really well download and listen to music watch movies have things like netflix and facebook have a camera for pic and movie making and no the cameras are not as bad as reviwers have made them out to be.!!! The playstation vita is what it is intended to be FUN!!! And it works really well not to mention u have a large company that will be backing this thing up and be constantly making improvements for years o come try getting that from ur phone or ipad that is obsolete second ubuy it.!! Only thing that makes the vita expensive like any NEW technological device is all the accesories u can buy which u just take ur time getting this vita is a MUST buy for any gamer that also enjoys watcing movies listening music surfin the net and chatting with freinds or texting them enjoy

You are right the iPhone does cost $199.99, but did you happen to notice there is thing called a contract with the carrier that costs you A LOT more. My iPhone monthly bill with Verizon is $90.00 a month x 24 months(standard 2 year contract)=$2,160.00!!! The carrier is subsidizing the phone price other wise these “gaming” machines would cost a fortune. Suddenly those dollar games arent looking that good.

Smartphones are nothing compared to the PS Vita when it comes to gaming. The Vita is more powerful than any smartphone out which allows it to play these hardcore games. The Vita’s only competition is the 3DS. Not smartphones. I am sure enough that I would buy this. I barely play games on my phone and my phone is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, a gaming phone. Don’t say that the Vita has competition with smartphones because it doesn’t.
